Scotty Prince’s top 5 players for the 2018 NRL Telstra Premiership

With the 2018 NRL Telstra Premiership just around the corner and preseason games coming to an end, it’s time to get out the SQDAthletica crystal ball and share my views on my top five players who will determine the fate for their team this year.

Over the break, there have been some big-name players on the move, including James Graham (Bulldogs to Dragons), Ben Hunt (Broncos to Dragons), Josh Dugan (Dragons to Sharks), James Maloney (Sharks to Panthers) and many more.
James Tedesco and Cooper Cronk

These changes obviously make it difficult to decide who will make the adjustment easier at their new home, but my first two in my Top 5 would have to be the Sydney Roosters’ new recruits, James Tedesco and Cooper Cronk. Both current State of Origin representatives and talented players in their own right, but this combination in 2018 has the whole Rugby League community, in particular, Roosters fans, licking their lips with excitement. One combo to keep your eyes on.

Cameron Smith and Jonathan Thurston

After witnessing the performances of both the Melbourne Storm and the North Queensland Cowboys at Suncorp Stadium in torrential rain, it still astounds me that these two immortals in the waiting, have so much influence on the outcome of each game. The two men need no introduction, Cameron Smith and Jonathan Thurston, will again stand up in 2018 to lead the charge for premiership glory.

Brodie Croft

Okay, with just the one spot left, I have to run with a young gun, a future star of the NRL, who caught my eyes in the QLD Under 20s Team last year, Brodie Croft. Stepping in the footsteps of the one of NRL’s best Halfbacks to have played the game, Cooper Cronk, Crofty has some big shoes to fill down in Melbourne. In the short time I spent with him and his demeanour on the field, this young man will get the job done and prove he will be one to watch in 2018.
