3 ways to stay active as a family

We all know staying active is very important. It brings many health benefits, both physically and mentally.

It’s also a great way spend some quality time together with the ones you love, particularly if you have kids. Your children are always watching and learning from you – staying active as a parent, keeps them active. So, set the right example!

Ex-rugby League Star, Scott Prince shares how he stays active with his two kids.

For those looking for some ideas on what you can do to keep active with the family, here are my top tips:

1. Switch off the TV

Actually, this one should be all electronics, because I recommend switching off all devices – the tv, iPads, iPhones, iPods. Yes, there is a need for technology in today’s day and age but having a time limit is important. You need to look up every now and then to see what’s happening around you (and get some fresh air!). During our downtime, we go to the beach, the Gold Coast hinterland, or for a walk or ride around the park with the dog. It is a challenge, even for me, but trust me, it’s worth it!

2. Take on a challenge together

There’s nothing like a little healthy competition to get the blood pumping. For my family, sport is and will always be a major factor in keeping us active. Now the footy days are over, touch footy has taken its place. The girls and I are heavily involved, playing in competitions around the Gold Coast.

3. Make some time every week
It doesn’t matter if it’s an hour or a whole day, it’s important to make time your  family, and what better way to do this than to get active outdoors. Normally we would stick with the beach or take advantage of the pathways around Emerald Lakes to walk/jog and ride the bikes, but we are open for kinds of activities and adventures. All that matters, is that you’re doing it together!
